New restaurant opens on Staten Island with 16 menus, plus lots of pizza

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On Thursday night, the West Brighton location of Wonder restaurant opened, and its founder, Marc Lores, cut the ceremonial ribbon. Hundreds of interested Staten Islanders had either sampled its cuisine or at least peeked inside the corner eatery by the time the evening celebrations arrived.

In just two years, amazement opened its 35th location amid all the hoopla and amazement. The executives of this rapidly expanding, privately held company describe their ground-breaking food hall business concept. That might be an understatement, though.

The first Wonder on Staten Island has menus from sixteen different eateries all under one roof. Although the 800 Forest Ave. location has nine tables and roughly 20 seating areas, the concept works well for delivery and to-go options.

Efficiency and admirable packaging

Wonder food is effectively sealed in biodegradable bowls with fitting dome tops and plastic containers. There may be a unique strap or sticker on the packaging, depending on the brand—Walnut Lane by Jonathan Waxman, Yasas by Michael Symon, etc. Stately shopping totes resembling those from upscale department stores are used to properly assemble large items.

According to the promo notes, Wonder offers award-winning restaurants from all over the nation, such as Tejas Barbeque and Di Fara Pizza, as well as some of the best chefs in the world, including Bobby Flay, Jose Andres, Nancy Silverton, Marcus Samuelsson, and others. For the first time, guests can try any combination of these chefs and restaurants in a single order.

Beginning when clients place their orders at a kiosk, through the Wonder app, or with a Wonder employee, orders can take up to 30 minutes to complete. The average dinner costs $12 plus tax, excluding sides and soft drinks. Wonder refers to the entire experience as “Fast Fine Dining.”

There are certain disadvantages to the idea, depending on your point of view.

Despite having a drive-thru and replacing an old Santander bank, Wonder’s footprint did not maintain this level of vehicle convenience. There are no calorie counts displayed.Furthermore, even though the word “trouble” is listed on the menu, there is no proof that it has any taste or aroma.

How s the pizza?

The good news for the local pizzeria owners who are in competition is that, based on the reporter’s experience, all three of its pizza entities—Detroit Brick Oven Pizza Co., DiFara, and Alanza (a house brand)—offer respectable products. However, samples show that the product has the quality and fragrance of institutional food service. This is an exception, though, because Alanza’s gluten-free crust is excellent.

A brief liaison between the Brooklyn-based DiFara Pizza and the Staten Island groups occurred in Grant City. The venture arrived at 102 Lincoln Avenue in 2022 and came to an abrupt end in December of the same year. As part of the topping options, Wonder brings sausage kibbles, sometimes known as crumbles, back to the borough.

However, given its diversity and range of components, the Wonder meal makes a noteworthy and speedy entrance. Additionally noteworthy is the fact that its founder, Marc Lore, is a native of Westerleigh and a native of Staten Island.

Wonder is located in West Brighton at 800 Forest Ave. It is open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Limesalt, Tejas Barbecue, Fred’s Meat and Bread, Michael Symon’s Yasas, Marcus Samuelsson’s Streetbird, Burger Baby, Wing Trip, Alanza Pizza, Room for Dessert, Kin House, Alanza, Detroit Brick Pizza Co., Bobby Flay Steak, Royal Greens, Marc Murphy’s The Mainstay, Di Fara Pizza, Walnut Lane, Maydan, and Bellies (kids) are among the eateries that are open.
