Storied record store chain to close last 2 remaining locations

Music lovers will probably be disappointed to hear that Sam Goody has announced the closure of its final two locations, even though they may not have realized it was still operating, according to several media reports.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, mall-goers in the U.S. and U.K. frequented the legendary record store chain with the oddball tagline, Goody’s Got It, because of its discounted prices, artist appearances, and record release day celebrations.

When the business finally declared bankruptcy in 2006, in the midst of the early days of digital downloads and streaming, the Staten Island Mall shop closed.

Only two locations have stayed open since 2022: one at the Rogue Valley Mall in Medford, Oregon, and the other at the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

While there is no set date for the closure of the Oregon location, the Ohio store is scheduled to close sometime in February.
