“At 12:42 p.m., a lake effect snow band was along a line extending from Pattersonville-Rotterdam Junction to near Hancock and moving east at 15 MPH,” according to the weather service.

Interstate 88 close to exit 25, Interstate 90 between exits 10 and 26, Interstate 890 between exits 1a and 9, Interstate 87 between exits 23 and 7, and Interstate 787 between exits 1 and 8, are all included in this.

The following areas should have lake effect snow:

  • Schenectady, Troy, Clifton Park, Cohoes, Watervliet, Scotia, Latham, Glenville, Niskayuna, and Green Island around 12:45 p.m.

  • Burnt Hills around 12:55 p.m.

  • Country Knolls around 1:05 p.m.

In cold weather conditions, things might quickly get worse. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there.

“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service says. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to go through or into this lake effect snow belt, proceed with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
