At 9:37 p.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow weather alert for Orleans, Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, and Ontario counties, which would last until 11 p.m.
According to the weather service, “a lake effect snow band was nearly stationary from Holley to Scottsville to Canandaigua at 9:35 p.m.”
The following locations are affected by the alert: Gates-North Gates, Albion, Hilton, Fairport, Brighton, Henrietta, Spencerport, Victor, Honeoye Falls, Bristol, Lima, Scottsville, Rochester, Greece, Irondequoit, Chili, Canandaigua, Brockport, East Rochester, and Albion. The following roadways are included in this: Interstate 390 between exits 11 and 12. Between exits 43 and 46 on Interstate 90.
“If you have to travel into or through this lake effect snow band, exercise extra caution,” the weather agency cautions. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
