NY weather: Look for lake effect snow in New York until early Wednesday

The National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow weather alert for Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, and Ontario counties on Tuesday at 10:47 p.m. and it lasted until Wednesday at 12:15 a.m.

“At 10:44 p.m., a lake effect snow band was nearly stationary stretching from Holley, or near Brockport to Canandaigua,” according to the weather service.

The following locations are affected by the alert: Henrietta, Spencerport, Victor, Honeoye Falls, Bristol, Lima, Scottsville, Churchville, Holley, Bloomfield, Rushville, Rochester, Chili, Canandaigua, Brockport, Medina, Albion, Brighton, Gates-North Gates, and Lakeside Beach State Park. The following roadways are included in this: Interstate 390 between exits 11 and 12. Between exits 44 and 46 on Interstate 90.

“If you have to travel into or through this lake effect snow band, exercise extra caution,” the weather agency cautions. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
