Health alert issued for frozen items sold at Walmart: Toss these items immediately

For frozen goods sold at Walmart, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has released a public health notice.

Products marketed as Chicken Curry Empanadas were the subject of an FSIS alert because of incorrect labeling and an unreported allergy. Although not stated on the product label, the product may really contain Apple Cinnamon Empanadas, which contain milk, a recognized allergy.

To ensure that customers with milk allergies are informed that this product should not be consumed, FSIS is issuing this public health advisory.

Since the product can no longer be purchased, it is not being recalled.

On November 14, 2024, the frozen goods were manufactured, and on November 20 and 21, 2024, they were packaged.

It consists of 9.6-oz cardboard boxes with the label Bettergoods TRADITIONALLY CRAFTED Chicken Curry Empanadas, EST. P33967, and BEST BY: 05/21/26 or BEST BY: 05/22/26 on the side.

On the side of the box, the products have the establishment number P33967.

The merchandise was delivered to Walmart stores across the country.

According to the agency, the issue was identified when the manufacturing facility informed FSIS that its distributor had received four customer complaints claiming that the apple cinnamon empanada product was placed inside the retail packaging for chicken curry empanadas.

Although there have been no verified complaints of negative effects brought on by using these items, anyone who is worried about getting sick should speak with a doctor.

The possibility that certain products are in consumers’ freezers worries FSIS. Customers are advised to discard or return these products to the store where they were acquired rather than consuming them.
