N.Y. Lottery: NYC winner takes home $50K with third-prize Powerball ticket

Using a third-prize Powerball ticket, a fortunate winner in New York City recently won $50,000.

The winning ticket for the January 8 drawing, according to the New York Lottery, matched the red Powerball and four white balls. It was offered for sale at Greenpoint Expressway, which is situated in Long Island City, Queens, at 35-15 Greenpoint Ave.

That night’s winning numbers were Powerball 24 and 1, 20, 36, 38, and 43.

In the Powerball game, the winning numbers are selected from a range of 1 to 69. A different field ranging from 1 to 26 is used to select the Powerball number. Players must match the red Powerball number and all five white balls in any order to win the jackpot.

Every day of the week, Powerball tickets are available for $2 at any New York Lottery shop. On draw nights, tickets must be purchased by 10 p.m.

The New York Lottery encourages players to purchase tickets in advance to avoid last-minute lineups for the drawings, which take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m.

Through the New York Lottery app, players can safely check their tickets.
