NYPD: Woman, 25, arrested in fatal stabbing of mother on Staten Island

New York’s Staten Island. According to police, a 25-year-old woman was taken into custody on Monday in relation to the deadly stabbing of Jennira Roundtree, a 43-year-old grandmother and loving mother, at the West Brighton Houses where she resided.

According to a spokesperson for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, Jasmin Thompson, of the 400 block of Richmond Terrace in New Brighton, is charged with second-degree murder.

According to sources, the 43-year-old victim was attempting to save her daughter from a crowd-wide altercation outside the municipal Housing Authority building (NYCHA).

According to authorities, Roundtree, a mother of four and grandmother of one, was repeatedly stabbed in the chest at the complex on January 7 near 820 Henderson Ave.

According to accounts, a fight that started between teenagers turned violent, allegedly involving around 20 ladies and girls.

After being taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton by emergency medical services, Roundtree passed away from her wounds.

Police have charged Thompson with first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon in addition to second-degree murder.

According to the Daily News, the defendant’s attorney, Mario Gallucci, stated that Thompson was protecting herself when Roundtree was fatally injured.

The neighborhood grieved Roundtree’s passing at a candlelight vigil held at the West Brighton Houses.

Diamond Brantley, Roundtree’s neighbor and friend, told the Advance/SILive.com that she will stop at nothing to keep her children safe. In order to prevent any drama, she would constantly come out and tell them to go back inside. She never experienced any issues, and I sincerely hope that the person responsible is apprehended.
