When the 2025 international free agency signing window starts on Wednesday, the 23-year-old right-hander may already be choosing which team to join with. His window for posting ends on January 23.
In his weekly appearance on Bleacher Report, Jon Heyman of The New York Post most recently revealed last Wednesday that neither New York team had been removed off Sasaki’s list of suitors. With several individuals verifying Curry and Sammon’s account, it appears that has changed.
What will happen to Sasaki next?
The Athletic’s Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal revealed that the San Diego Padres hosted Sasaki over the weekend, right after the news about the Mets and Yankees surfaced. According to the insiders, he went to see the Toronto Blue Jays last week.

Throughout this process, which started when teams submitted presentations for his consideration, Sasaki has been extremely thorough. He then invited particular teams to meet with him at Wolfe’s Los Angeles office for precisely the same length of time. No team was permitted to try to lure him in with expensive dinners and other benefits.
Sasaki has vicious splitters and fastballs that can reach 100 mph. He has a 2.02 ERA and 524 strikeouts in 414.2 innings throughout his four seasons with the Chiba Lotte Marines.
ESPN expert Bradford Doolittle stated earlier Monday that he thought the Mets were a strong contender for Sasaki due to their capacity to develop pitchers. The Mets won’t have an opportunity to explore what they can do with Sasaki if rumors that he isn’t interested in either New York team are accurate.
