NY weather: Prepare for heavy snow in New York Wednesday afternoon

At 12:46 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service reported that Chenango, Otsego, Broome, Delaware, and Sullivan counties would get significant snowfall through 1:45 p.m.

“At 12:46 p.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Walton to Kirkwood and moving southeast at 35 MPH,” according to the meteorological service.

Rockland, Binghamton, Kirkwood, Conklin, Sidney, Jackson, Walton, Callicoon, Clifford, and Sanford are among the places affected by the alert. The following highway exits are included in this: Pennsylvania Interstate 81 between 201 and 230; New York Interstate 81 between 1 and 5; Interstate 86/Route 17 between 72 and 97; and Interstate 88 between 3 and 11.

The weather service states that “in winter weather conditions, conditions can deteriorate rapidly.” Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to drive into or through this area of heavy snow, go with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
