The starting quarterbacks for Ohio State and Notre Dame football are connected by the Manning family

Columbus, OhioWill Howard of Ohio State and Riley Leonard of Notre Dame will play football together on Monday in the CFP National Championship, but the quarterbacks are linked outside of the Atlanta game.

They shared a room last year.

While living together at the Manning Passing Academy, a camp run by Archie, Eli, Peyton, and Cooper Manning, Howard and Leonard came to know one another during their brief time in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

Leonard told reporters this week that it (was) really nice to have those late-night talks with him about life and other things. He is someone I greatly like, so it’s incredibly nice to see where we are today.

When they went to the camp in 2023, the two got to know one another. Leonard was at Duke at the time, and Howard was representing Kansas State.

They were paired with Wisconsin’s Tyler Van Dyke and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik as roommates when they returned in June of last year.

At the time, Howard and Leonard had just moved to a new school and were experiencing a whole new world.

According to Leonard, we weren’t the camp’s biggest names at the time. We were just two guys working hard to establish themselves and compete.

With their new programs, they have met, if not surpassed, the high bar.

According to Howard, we definitely wouldn’t have thought that we would be competing for the national title for two new institutions just a few months later. It’s really awesome. In addition to being a fantastic player, he is also a wonderful man and someone I greatly admire for his beliefs.

In return, Leonard gave Howard plaudits on his value as a roommate.

Leonard said, “Clean guy.” The majority of the guys are constantly watching out for one another, and we were only there for three or four nights. For example, one person will go get food and bring it back for the other guys.
