The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Chautauqua County at 5:50 p.m. on Sunday. The warning was in force from 7 p.m. to Wednesday at 10 a.m.
“Heavy lake effect snow expected,” the weather service said. In the most persistent lake snows, which mostly affect the northern parts of the county, the total snow accumulation ranges from 10 to 20 inches. There will also be some blowing and drifting snow due to winds that can reach 35 mph.
According to the weather service, “travel will be very difficult with very poor visibility and deep snow cover on roads.” “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions.
