NY weather update: Lake effect snow warning issued for Erie and Genesee counties until early Wednesday morning

At 11:49 a.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Erie and Genesee counties, which would remain in force until Wednesday at 4 a.m.

“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service reports. There have been more snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches in most of Buffalo and the central eastern suburbs, and 6 to 12 inches in the South Buffalo Southtowns. In Genesee County’s extreme southwest, accumulations of two to four inches are anticipated.

“With extremely poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the roadways, travel will be extremely challenging. The meteorological agency notes that some important roads may close for a while. “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions.
