The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties at 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, which will remain in place until Wednesday at 7 a.m.
“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service remarks. In the most persistent lake snows, which will extend from Watertown downstream and into the extreme western regions of Lewis County, there will be additional snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches. Much smaller amounts in the eastern two-thirds of Lewis County and northern Jefferson County.
“With extremely poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the highways, travel will be extremely difficult to impossible. According to the weather service, there are moments when traveling on Interstate 81 may be difficult or impossible. “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions.
