NYPD: 9 vehicles stolen on Staten Island from Jan. 13 to Jan. 19

New York’s Staten Island. According to police, nine cars were reported stolen from different places on Staten Island between January 13 and 19.

Although there have been nine grand larceny car cases in the last week, the NYPD CompStat database only shows the precise locations of four of those incidents: One motorcycle theft and three auto thefts.

Here are some examples of those incidents:

A motorbike theft was reported at the intersection of Eldridge Avenue and St. Anthony Place in Port Richmond on January 13 at 11 a.m.

Simultaneously, a car theft was reported in Port Richmond at the intersection of John and Innis streets.

A car theft was reported at 6 a.m. on January 14 at Meiers Corner, close to Julie Court, at the intersection of Mann and Roosevelt avenues.

An automobile theft was reported near Leonard and Wardwell Avenues in Westerleigh a few hours later around 10 a.m.

A request for the five events not listed in the database was not immediately answered by the NYPD.

When comparing the reported vehicle thefts in the borough from January 19 to the same period in 2024, the NYPD’s most recent CompStat data shows no difference (13 vs. 13).

The NYPD implemented a tactical change in the summer of 2023 to reduce auto thefts. Law enforcement officials were able to reduce the number of grand larceny car cases that were on the rise at the time by creating a complex, multi-agency system to collect and evaluate intelligence.
