NY weather update: Lake effect snow warning affecting New York until Monday morning

The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties on Saturday at 12:47 p.m., which is in effect from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Monday.

Heavy lake effect snow is predicted, according to the weather service. In the most persistent lake snows, total snow accumulations range from 9 to 18 inches, with the Tug Hill Plateau seeing the largest accumulations. Additionally, blowing and drifting snow can be caused by winds of up to 35 mph.

“Travel will be very difficult,” the weather service warns. “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions.
