At 10:54 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a weather notice for St. Lawrence and Franklin counties, warning of snow showers through 11:30 a.m.
“A line of heavy snow showers was reported to stretch from 27 miles northwest of Morristown Village to 11 miles north of Waddington and 22 miles north of Bombay at 10:51 a.m. The weather service reports that the movement was southeast at 35 mph. “Unsecured objects may be blown around by gusty winds. Drivers may be at risk due to poor visibility.
Massena Village, Richards Field at Massena International Airport, Brushton, Norwood, Bangor, Bombay, Moira, Waddington, Stockholm, Madrid, Norfolk, Brasher, Westville, Fort Covington, Constable, Lawrence, Ogdensburg, Burke, and Oswegatchie are among the places affected by the alert.
According to the weather service, “Dangerous driving conditions are likely to result from rapid reductions in visibility.” During these snow showers, it is not recommended to travel. Reduce your speed and make sure your headlights are on if you are traveling in inclement winter weather to improve your vehicle’s visibility to onlookers.
Winds of 25 mph or more and visibility of less than a mile are hazards.
