NY weather: Prepare for snow showers in New York Sunday midday

At 11:29 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service published a forecast predicting snow showers in St. Lawrence, Franklin, and Clinton counties through 12:15 p.m.

Heavy snow showers were observed at 11:27 a.m. along a line that ran from 12 miles northwest of Ogdensburg to 20 miles north of Clinton and close to Norfolk. The weather service reports that the movement was southeast at 30 mph. “Gusty winds may blow around unsecured things and have the potential to topple tree limbs. Drivers may be at risk due to poor visibility.

Mooers Village, Richards Field at Massena International Airport, Burke Village, Brushton, Canton Village, Rensselaer Falls, Malone Village, Norwood, Potsdam Village, Heuvelton, Chateaugay Village, Dickinson, Potsdam, Ellenburg, Bangor, Bombay, Burke, Moira, and Waddington are among the places affected by the alert. This includes the area around mile marker 176 on Interstate 87.

The weather agency goes on to say, “Dangerous driving conditions are likely to result from rapid losses in visibility. During these snow showers, it is not recommended to travel. Reduce your speed and make sure your headlights are on if you are traveling in inclement winter weather to improve your vehicle’s visibility to onlookers.

Winds of 35 mph or more and visibility of less than a mile are hazards.
