NY weather update: Jefferson County under a high wind warning Monday and Tuesday

At 9:07 p.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued an updated high wind warning for Jefferson County, which is in effect from Monday at 7 a.m. until Tuesday at 6 a.m.

“Southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected,” the weather service states. The shore of Lake Ontario will experience the heaviest gusts.

“Power wires and trees will be toppled by strong winds. There may likely be intermittent power disruptions. Travel will be challenging, particularly for well-known cars, the weather service said. “Avoid being outside near trees and in wooded regions. Avoid windows during the windstorm and try to stay in the lower floors of your house. If you have to drive, exercise caution.
