NY weather update: High wind warning affecting New York until Tuesday morning

The National Weather Service issued an updated strong wind warning for Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, and Chautauqua counties on Monday at 12:54 p.m., which will remain in force until Tuesday at 6 a.m.

As an additional precaution, the weather service states that “Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected.” The counties of Niagara, Orleans, and Genesee are predicted to see the strongest winds, with isolated gusts of up to 70 mph likely.

“Power wires and trees will be toppled by strong winds. Trees with dead ash will be particularly vulnerable. There may likely be intermittent power disruptions. It will be challenging to travel, particularly for well-known cars,” the weather agency says. “Avoid being outside near trees and in wooded regions. Avoid windows during the windstorm and try to stay in the lower floors of your house. If you have to drive, exercise caution.
