NY weather: Weather alert for heavy snow in New York Wednesday morning

The National Weather Service issued a weather advisory for Montgomery, Schoharie, Schenectady, Saratoga, Albany, and Rensselaer counties on Wednesday at 6:26 a.m., warning of heavy snow through 7:15 a.m.

The meteorological service reported that at 6:26 a.m., “a band of heavy snow was near Delanson, or 10 miles south of Amsterdam moving east at 35 MPH.”

Interstate 88 between exits 22 and 25 and Interstate 90 between exits 8 and 26 are included in this. Interstate 87 from exit 24 to exit 7, and between exits 8A and 10; Interstate 890 from exits 1a to 9; and Interstate 787 from exits 5 to 9.

In the following areas, expect significant snowfall:


  • Duanesburg and Delanson around 6:30 a.m.

  • Schenectady, Rotterdam, and Scotia around 6:40 a.m.

  • Niskayuna and East Glenville around 6:45 a.m.

  • Cohoes and Latham around 7 a.m.

  • Troy, Watervliet, Green Island, and Waterford around 7:05 a.m.

  • Center Brunswick around 7:10 a.m.

In cold weather conditions, things might quickly get worse. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there.
