At New Hyde Park Memorial High School on Long Island, Tyler-Rose Vitagliano, a fourth-grader at P.S. 30, Westerleigh, won the Hoop Shoot State district free-throw finals after making 20 of 25 from the lane.
Vitagliano will now compete in the State South Regional competitions on February 2 at the same venue while representing BPO Staten Island Elks Lodge #841. The Westerleigh native will advance to the State finals in Utica, New York, if she wins this next round.
