At 3:41 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service released a bulletin predicting significant snowfall in the counties of Cortland, Chenango, Tioga, Broome, and Delaware through 4:45 p.m.
“At 3:41 p.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from Whitney Point to near Spencer and moving east at 40 MPH,” according to the weather service.
Binghamton, Vestal, Johnson City, Endicott, Kirkwood, Conklin, Maine, Sidney, Owego, and Sanford are among the places affected by the alert. The following highway exits are included in this: Interstate 81 in New York between 1 and 8. Interstate 88 between 1 and 9; Interstate 86/Route 17 between 64 and 65; and between 67 North and 84.
“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service continues. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to drive into or through this area of heavy snow, go with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
