NYC offering free sessions to help property owners understand proposed tax assessments

New York’s Staten Island. To help property owners better understand their Notice of Property Value (NOPV), which is a statement mailed to property owners every January informing them of their property’s tentative market and assessed values for the upcoming tax year, the NYC Department of Finance (DOF) will organize a number of citywide outreach events.

According to a press release, Preston Niblack, the department’s commissioner, stated that our NOPV information events give property owners a great chance to learn more about their yearly tentative property tax assessments and get support from informed DOF employees. By describing how assessments operate, pointing out possible savings, and assisting them with the various property tax benefit programs, these sessions aim to empower property owners. You may retain more money in your pocket and reduce your yearly tax liability by taking advantage of these services.

Property assessors, customer service professionals, and officials from the body that holds hearings on contested valuations will join DOF outreach staff for the NOPV awareness sessions. A summary of the NOPV will be given, along with information on property taxes, possible savings through exemptions from property taxes, how the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate can help with particular tax concerns, and how to file a property assessment appeal with the Tax Commission.

The Staten Island session of the DOF will take place on February 19 at the Staten Island JCC Bernikow/Mid-Island, which is situated at 1466 Manor Road. The DOF will visit each borough. Every event starts at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m.

The whole schedule of DOF’s 2025 NOPV information sessions is as follows:
