NYPD: 2 men arrested for break-in at home on Staten Island; 1 had imitation gun

New York’s Staten Island. Authorities are charging two suspected thieves with several offenses after they allegedly broke into a house in Midland Beach and took some belongings.

Authorities said that at approximately 9:15 a.m. on January 23, Damone Hylor, 23, of the 1400 block of Brooklyn Avenue in Brooklyn, and Michael Fontus, 41, of 57th Avenue in Queens, shattered the rear glass door of a house on Nugent Avenue.

According to the NYPD, the two males broke into the house of a woman who wasn’t there when the break-in occurred.

According to court documents, Fontus and Hylor, armed with a crowbar and rucksack, searched drawers and went upstairs to a bedroom before leaving the house.

According to an NYPD representative, the homeowner was able to record the break-in on a security camera while they were away from home and called the authorities.

The complaint claims that after the burglary, two cell phones and a black jewelry box with two gold necklaces were gone from the house.

According to a police spokesperson, NYPD officers scouted the area when they arrived on the scene.

According to court filings, Fontus had a black fake gun hidden in his slacks and a sock on his right ankle when officers were able to identify and capture him. Officers said they found the black jewelry box with the two gold necklaces and a cell phone in his left front pants pocket, along with the fake gun.

According to officials, Hylor was arrested later that day.

Burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools, petty larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property are among the allegations against both individuals.
