New York’s Staten Island. Following a multi-vehicle collision that is delaying traffic heading to Staten Island on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge during Monday morning rush hour, a patient has been taken to a hospital.
The Monday morning rush hour on Staten Island and throughout New York City presents a number of problems, including snow and ice, for drivers and pedestrians making their way to public transportation.
According to a Con Edison spokesman, 50 customers now have power again after more than 70 were left without it early Monday on Staten Island’s South Shore.
There are areas where sidewalks and roads are slick, according to AccuWeather.com.
Crash on Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge
A FDNY/EMS spokesperson said that after the incident on the lower level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge at 8:22 a.m., a patient with minor injuries was sent to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.
According to the FDNY spokesperson, a second individual with minor injuries declined medical assistance.
During the emergency response, the MTA reported that one lane on the lower level of the Staten Island-bound span was closed due to the collision.
Power outages on South Shore
According to the Con Edison website and a Con Edison official, around 73 customers reported power outages that started at 4:40 a.m. in and around Arden Heights near Huguenot Avenue on side streets that included Mimosa Lane and Yucca Drive.
According to a Con Edison spokesman, about 23 customers are still without power at around nine in the morning.
According to the utility spokesperson, crews have located and are repairing malfunctioning equipment. In order to restore service to the remaining customers, crews are working as fast and safely as they can. Midday is when crews anticipate service to be restored.
Monday s forecast calls for warmer weather
The good news is that AccuWeather.com predicts that the temperature will gradually rise to 45 degrees in our borough, melting the ice and snow.
According to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service, any untreated surfaces are icy and thus slippery with temperatures at or below freezing. Be cautious, slow down, and allow additional time to get to your destination if you’re traveling.
AccuWeather.com predicts Monday will be a combination of sun and clouds with light breezes.
