According to NBC News, the average cost of a dozen eggs in the US has gone up by 50% in the last 12 months.A year ago, a dozen eggs cost $3.50, but in the week ending January 18, they cost $5.29. Since December, 13 million chickens have been slaughtered due to avian flu outbreaks, which are being blamed for the surge.
