In a deeply distressing and alarming incident at a Connecticut beach, Romney Desronvil, a 41-year-old man, stands accused of attempting to drown his twin toddlers after reportedly discovering what he believed to be “witchcraft materials” belonging to their mother. The horrifying event, which unfolded over the weekend, has shocked both the local community and authorities alike.
Desronvil’s actions were allegedly driven by a panicked belief that the materials found at the children’s New York home indicated his life was in danger. He claimed the items suggested the children’s biological mother was casting harmful spells against him, an assertion that escalated into a fierce response.
The chain of events began when Desronvil abducted his young twins in the middle of the night and drove to a remote Connecticut beach. His intention was reportedly to confront another child who he believed would corroborate his suspicions. However, upon noticing a police car in the vicinity, he panicked further and swiftly decided to enter the water with his children.
A vigilant West Haven police officer, on routine patrol, noticed Desronvil’s vehicle on the otherwise deserted beach and heard distressed cries emanating from the water. Rushing to investigate, the officer witnessed Desronvil submerged with the twins in Long Island Sound, actively attempting to drown them. The situation escalated into a dramatic rescue operation involving the officer, supported by the West Shore Fire Department, who bravely intervened and pulled the children to safety.
Authorities have commended the swift and decisive actions of law enforcement and emergency responders, acknowledging that their prompt response undoubtedly saved the lives of the twin toddlers. The children were immediately transported to Yale New Haven Hospital’s intensive care unit, where they continued to receive medical attention. Reports indicate that they have shown slight signs of improvement since the harrowing ordeal.
Romney Desronvil has since been charged with multiple serious offenses, including attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and risk of injury to children. During his arraignment in Milford Superior Court, his bail was set at a substantial $2 million. He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 1 as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
The children’s mother, deeply shaken by the events, rushed to the hospital to be by her children’s side. She has informed authorities that Desronvil may have been struggling with mental health issues, shedding light on potential factors that contributed to his disturbing actions.
West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer expressed the community’s collective shock and sympathy, reassuring the mother that despite being far from home, she and her children have the unwavering support of the community. Mayor Borer emphasized the city’s commitment to providing whatever assistance the family needs during this traumatic time.
