Since its opening on November 20, Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, the first art amusement park in the world, has been a huge success. Tickets for this exclusive exhibition at The Shedin Manhattan, which will run through January 5, 2025, are currently available for purchase following a successful run in Los Angeles.
With pieces by some of the most well-known artists of the 20th century, including as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Salvador Dal, and Roy Lichtenstein, Luna Luna was first built in 1987 by artist Andr Heller as a ground-breaking combination of an amusement park and an art museum.
Before the park’s treasures were left in storage for more than 30 years, the event in Hamburg drew 300,000 visitors. After entrepreneur Michael Goldberg unearthed it, Drake, a musician, bought it and assisted in restoring the components for a second global tour.
Luna Luna will make you grin, regardless of whether you are an art enthusiast or have never heard of Basquiat. According to Goldberg, chief experience officer at Luna Luna and founder of Something Special Studios, it’s one of those unique ventures that has the ability to unite people from all walks of life. It’s a nostalgic format done in a whole new way.
Adult tickets cost $44 during the week and $64 on the weekends, while children’s tickets cost $35. Go to www.lunaluna.com to learn more.
A BIT MORE LUNA LUNA
A timeline linking the park’s history to Modernism’s is included in the exhibition, along with a montage of the 1987 carnival that shows animated kids riding Haring’s carousel. In order to keep spectators at a distance, Haring’s carousel, which takes center stage in the display, is surrounded by metal bars.
Additionally, visitors can examine Dal’s Dal Dom, Scharf’s wave swinger, and Basquiat’s Ferris wheel. For this resurrection, new components were made especially, such as Dal’s mirror dome and Lichtenstein’s glass maze.
According to Alex Poots, artistic director of The Shed, Luna Luna at The Shed offers audiences the chance to see innovative pieces by some of the most prominent artists of our day in the distinctive setting of an amusement park. The Shed’s cutting-edge facilities are ideal for immersing viewers in Luna Luna’s fantastical universe.
Along with tailored music, roving performers, and an intriguing, otherworldly atmosphere, the exhibition also exhibits archive artifacts that describe the park’s history and the meticulous restoration process.
