New York’s Staten Island — Two of Hyundai Motor Company’s best-selling models are the subject of a safety recall.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the business has recalled the 2025 Santa Cruz pickup and Tucson SUV models because of wiring problems in the transmission that may cause the cars to roll away when parked. The recall could affect over 42,000 vehicles.
The great majority of the 42,465 vehicles involved in the recall—more than 35,500—are Tucson models.
According to the recall notice, the primary cause of the issue is incorrectly routed wiring near the transmission shift lever, which may come into contact with the shift lever lock and cause the car to roll away if the brake pedal is not depressed.
Hyundai said owners can keep driving these impacted models, but they should use the parking brake before getting out.
Hyundai will get in touch with the owners of impacted cars and instruct them to take their Tucson or Santa Cruz to a dealership so that the problem can be fixed.
In the recall materials, the manufacturer promised to repay anyone who had already paid to have the rewiring done and to provide the necessary repair free of charge to vehicle owners.
