Vintage photos capture NYC Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade over the years

New York’s Staten Island. The Christmas Parade, the first parade ever staged by Macy’s, was held in 1924 and included circus-style performances, including marching elephants.

Balloons took the place of the animals in 1927, ushering in a cherished custom and establishing the current Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

In 1934, the Mickey Mouse balloon debuted in a parade. Additionally, fans have been captivated by classics like Kermit the Frog, Superman, and Snoopy over the years.

Felix the Cat, Raggedy Ann, Happy Dragon, and Underdog were some long-gone overhyped classics.

On Thursday, November 28, at 8:30 a.m., the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade begins at 77th Street and Central Park West.

The parade, which is in its 98th year, will include 24 entertainers, 28 clown teams, 11 marching bands, 39 huge balloons, and 22 floats. The 2.5-mile course will have something to offer almost everyone.

Two new Nickelodeon balloons will be on display at the event, featuring well-known characters from the new Paramount+ original series Dora and the popular animated series PAW Patrol, which is produced by Spin Master Entertainment.
