500 turkeys donated to Staten Island families at the Gerald Carter Center

New York’s Staten Island. The Amazin Mets Foundation partnered with The New York Foundling, a 155-year-old community partner that provides opportunities and activities to over 30,000 persons in New York and Puerto Rico, to distribute 500 turkeys to Staten Island families.

The Thanksgiving-themed giveaway, known as Metsgiving, took place at the Gerald Carter Center, located at 230 Broad Street, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Melissa Grace, Senior Vice President, said the event drew about 500 people, and Staten Islanders talked about how thankful they were to be able to provide their families with a holiday meal.

A large assortment of side dishes, canned goods, bread, and desserts were available in addition to the turkeys that were provided for the community. Live music was also played, which entertained everyone and added to the joyful environment.

The Amazin Mets Foundation provided 500 Thanksgiving turkeys to us on Staten Island today, and we distributed each one to numerous worthy families. Even on Staten Island, there is widespread food insecurity. Melanie Hartzog, president and CEO of The New York Foundling, expressed her pride in the organization’s presence today and its ability to provide a year-round food pantry in the city.
