Mapping the 9 vehicle thefts reported on Staten Island from Nov. 18-24

New York’s Staten Island. According to the NYPD, nine car thefts were recorded on Staten Island between November 18 and November 24.

According to NYPD CompStat data, Staten Island’s reported grand larceny auto cases have decreased by 24.1% (312 vs. 411) during the same period in 2023. Auto thefts in the city as a whole have decreased 8.6% so far this year (from 14,324 to 13,089).

The Staten Island grand larceny auto cases that were reported during the most recent week for which statistics are available, from November 18 to November 24, are shown below:


  • Early on the morning of Nov. 18, around 2 a.m., a vehicle theft was reported at the intersection of Westwood Avenue and Woodward Avenue in Willowbrook.

  • Later that day, around 6 p.m., another vehicle was reported stolen where Industrial Loop meets Arthur Kill Road in Rossville.

  • One hour later, at 7 p.m., a third grand larceny auto case was reported at the intersection of North Gannon Avenue and Willowbrook Road in Willowbrook.

  • On Nov. 19, the first of three grand larceny auto cases reportedly unfolded around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Delafield Avenue and Greenleaf Avenue in West Brighton.

  • At 10 a.m., just hours later, a second auto theft was reported in the vicinity of Raymond Place and Arcadia Place in West Brighton, only a couple short blocks from the site of the previous case.

  • The final auto theft of the day took place around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Demopolis Avenue in Eltingville.

  • On Nov. 20, a motorcycle theft was reported around 1 p.m. where Broadway meets Winegar Lane in West Brighton.

  • Around 4 p.m. on Nov. 22, an auto theft took place in the vicinity of Nehring Avenue and Copley Street in New Springville.

  • The final reported grand larceny auto case in this time period took place around 11 p.m. on the night of Nov. 23. According to CompStat, a vehicle was stolen in the vicinity of South Gannon Avenue and Darcey Avenue in Willowbrook.

The NYPD implemented a tactical change to reduce auto thefts starting at the end of the summer of 2023. Law enforcement officials were able to reduce the number of grand larceny car cases that were on the rise at the time by creating a complex, multi-agency system to collect and evaluate intelligence.
