New York’s Staten Island. According to NYPD CompStat data, Staten Island’s reported major crime rate as of Nov. 24 is 7.9% lower than it was at the same time last year. Despite all of the efforts made by New York’s Finest to keep those numbers low, there is one crime trend that still affects locals, especially business owners.
On November 19, the NYPD’s new borough commander, Assistant Chief Melissa Eger, stated that retail crime had increased by 9% in the borough and that, under her direction, cracking down on these crimes will be a top focus.
