The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties on Sunday at 3:51 a.m., which will remain in force until Monday at 7 p.m.
“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service reports. The most persistent lake snows over Jefferson County accumulate an additional 2 to 3 feet of snow. Additional 4–8-inch accumulations occurred in parts of northern Lewis County including the Tug Hill region. Oswego County will get further 3–6 inch accumulations.
“Travel will be hazardous and potentially dangerous due to the anticipated whiteout conditions. According to the weather service, travel will be extremely difficult or impossible. “The weather during lake effect snow can range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly limited visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather. Postpone all travel. If you have to travel, drive very carefully. Carry a snow storm kit containing blankets, additional clothes, a flashlight, a shovel, tire chains, booster cables, and other necessities. Additionally, include non-perishable food, water, a first aid kit, and anything else you might need to survive if you get stuck.
United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
