The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties on Monday at 10:28 p.m., which is in force until Tuesday at 7 p.m.
“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service reports. In the most persistent lake snows, there will be further snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches tonight through Tuesday.

With snow on the roads and extremely poor visibility, travel will be extremely challenging,” the weather agency says. “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions. Think about postponing your trip. If you have to travel, drive very carefully. Give yourself more time to get to your destination and give yourself plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. Steer clear of abrupt acceleration or braking, and exercise extra caution when turning or going up slopes.
