Congestion pricing could work for all of us (Opinion)

Federal clearance for a modified congestion pricing in Manhattan’s central business area has been given, and the plan is proceeding after Gov. Kathy Hochul’s statement on Nov. 14 and an overwhelming vote by the MTA board. The congestion pricing program is required by law to ensure the MTA’s survival, even though residents of Staten Island have differing opinions on whether it is the most effective way to finance transit.

In addition to sustaining tens of thousands of jobs in manufacturing, construction, and transit throughout our region, the program is anticipated to generate billions of dollars in revenue for accessibility retrofits, service enhancements, and environmental mitigation projects.
