Through the end of 2023, a record amount of clean energy jobs were created, according to Governor Kathy Hochul.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) 2024 New York Clean Energy Industry Report stated in a written statement that the state of New York employed 178,000 energy workers, adding 7,700 employment.
According to Hochul, this report demonstrates the importance of the clean energy transition and the real effects that a flourishing clean energy economy has on people’s quality of life. We are creating more prosperous communities with access to good-paying jobs throughout the state by combining comprehensive workforce development programs and measures that are expanding the deployment of clean energy and lowering emissions from buildings, vehicles, and the electric grid.
According to the research, New York’s clean energy sector generated almost 32,000 employment since NYSERDA started tracking clean energy jobs in 2016, and it increased by 5% between 2022 and 2023, more than twice the statewide economic growth rate.

Our enthusiasm and steadfast dedication to cutting emissions and safeguarding the environment in New York state are demonstrated by the expansion of the clean energy employment market in the state. Buildings and transportation created the most employment last year, according to the Clean Energy Industry Report, which further demonstrates the impact of our intense focus on tackling these two industries that are the main causes of poor air quality throughout the state, stated Doreen M. Harris, president and CEO of NYSERDA.
