The woman was struck by a southbound Honda Pilot at around 8:30 p.m., according to a preliminary inquiry, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
While NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad officers examined the incident, police blocked off the street between Linbergh and Allison avenues.
The woman walked into the path of his car, which had a severely crumpled hood, and another car swerved to avoid hitting her, the driver, who stayed at the scene, told the Advance/SILive.com.
The man said, “I tried to stop.”
According to authorities, the victim was sent to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze in critical condition.
According to the NYPD spokesperson, the investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed.
