New York’s Staten Island. Staten Island’s Lesko Ballet’s Nutcracker in the Richmond County Orchestra’s Concerto di Natale at Sacred Heart School’s auditorium in West Brighton will mark the official start of the Christmas season on Sunday, December 8 at 3 p.m.
The Richmond County Orchestra will be conducted by Alan Aurelia, and the evening will feature performances by soprano Simona Rodano, the Brighton Heights Youth Orchestra, the St. Cecilia Chorus, and Dragon Kim’s Karate USA.

All children and students are admitted free of charge.
There will also be raffle prizes and Santa photos available.

Born and bred in Torino, Piemonte, Italy, Simona Rodano became a successful international singer, actor, composer, director, author, and entrepreneur after discovering her love for singing at the age of six.

She has given performances at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami, the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., the Opera House in Seoul, Korea, Carnegie Hall, the Caf de Paris in Montecarlo, France, and Citi Field.
Under the direction of conductor Yvette Washington Wheatley, the Brighton Heights Reformed Church Youth Orchestra is a Staten Island youth orchestra.
The oldest musical group in the borough, the St. Cecilia Society, has been promoting and assisting women on Staten Island in their passion for music for 125 years.
Dragon Kim’s Karate USA choreographed the ballet performance to Christmas Eve/Sarajevo, which incorporates martial arts.

In 1998, conductor Aurelia established the Richmond County Orchestra. He has taught music at the Staten Island Conservatory of Music, Wagner College, the College of Staten Island, Brooklyn College, and Manhattan Community College.
Additionally, he frequently performs as a guest conductor in Massa, Italy.

On Staten Island, the orchestra presents live performances of both historical and contemporary music.
Young students who wish to pursue a career in music are also drawn to the educational innovations offered by the RCO.
RCO musicians have mentored students in after-school programs that culminate in Side-By-Side concerts with the students and the Orchestra at high schools and middle schools in New York City.
Along with Carnegie Hall and the Guggenheim Museum, they have also been asked to perform at Fairfield University, the Museum of Natural History, Washington Square Park, Asbury Park, and other locations in the tri-state area.
Children and students can attend any Richmond County Orchestra concert for free.
