NY weather: Prepare for heavy snow in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties Thursday afternoon

At 12:47 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a weather alert for Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, warning of heavy snow through 1:45 p.m.

“At 12:45 p.m., an area of heavy snow was across a portion of the Western Southern Tier, moving south at 5 MPH,” according to the weather service.

The alert affects the following locations: Alfred, Ashford, Allegany, Franklinville, Belfast, Cuba, Rushford, Weston Mills, St. Bonaventure, Ashford Hollow, Houghton, Whitesville, Caneadea, Hinsdale, Friendship, Great Valley, Olean, Salamanca, Wellsville, Allegany State Park, and Alfred. Interstate 86 between exits 16 and 33 is included in this.

“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service says. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. To get to your destination, slow down and give yourself more time.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
