New York’s Staten Island On Wednesday, November 13, Joy Overton Tierney, 36, passed away from problems related to childbirth an hour after giving birth to her daughter Lilith. Her husband, James Tierney, and baby daughter were left behind.
Every time I see our daughter and hear Joy’s voice in the back of my mind saying, “Quick, take a picture,” James remarked, I will think of her.
The Staten Island pair, who were born and reared in the Grasmere area, were married on June 5, 2023. James revealed that Joy’s top priority was to have children and become a mother, which was a dream that she cherished.
How am I doing? He said, “That’s a difficult question to answer.”
James has been constantly on the run since Joy’s death three weeks ago. James revealed that he visited Lilith daily until the wake and funeral during her two weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
On Friday, November 22, Joy was visited at Casey Funeral Home. On Saturday, November 23, a religious service was performed at St. Sylvester R.C. Church.
James stated that since then, learning how to care for a newborn has been a fast-paced and intense experience for him.
He noted that he first relied on Joy’s advice because she had assisted in raising children in her family. Nonetheless, he conveyed his appreciation for his robust network of support throughout this challenging period.
However, he stated that nothing could ever take the place of Joy’s presence.
According to James, baby Lilith has been doing well at home right now, eating and sleeping well, but she has had a few fussy moments as she gets used to living with him.
According to him, Joy will be remembered as a kind and generous individual who loved animals and loved to use her photography to capture everything. She cherished me and aspired to be a mother beyond all else. That’s evident from the way she got ready for the baby’s arrival.
Following Joy’s passing, a GoFundMe has been established to assist James and Lilith. According to James, the money will be utilized for the wake and funeral expenditures, with any money left over going toward the baby’s fees and medical bills.
With around 400 donations as of Friday morning, the community has started to come together.
According to the GoFundMe, Joy Overton Tierney was adored by many for her unadulterated heart, her unwavering devotion to her loved ones, and her individuality.
This week, the GoFundMe’s organizer, Jaclyn Himmel, expressed gratitude to everyone contributing.
It’s difficult to comprehend that Joy has been gone from this world for three solid weeks. According to her, she hasn’t even briefly left our minds, talks, thoughts, or the way we’ll talk about her going forward. I sincerely appreciate your support, everyone. We appreciate you cramming into the entire church to join us in prayer and to share our sorrow during Joy’s burial mass. Your attendance, encouraging words, shares, and gifts are greatly appreciated. As they make their way through, kindly keep Jim and Lilith in mind.
