South Shore wreath decorating contest returns with ‘Deck the Streets’

Joseph Borelli, a council member from Staten Island, New York, is enjoying the holiday season. He again calls for entries in his well-liked Deck the Halls wreath-making competition, which is combined with a toy drive, in an attempt to spread the joy.

Materials and wreaths are free of charge. They are available for pickup at Borelli’s district office, located above the Crumbl cookie boutique at 2955 Veterans Rd West, Suite #2E, Charleston. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“I’m glad we can collaborate with ArtBridge and the South Shore BID to extend this competition for another year,” Borelli added. We had a fantastic performance last year, particularly from the Grace Foundation participants. I’m excited to see the completed designs shown in the local communities.

How to enter the wreath contest

Wreaths ought to be picked up and taken away. Participants will receive complimentary wreaths and art supplies to pick up in the district office of the Council Member while supplies last.

In order for their wreaths to be on display across the expansive exhibit, which winds through Annadale, Eltingville, and Great Kills, participants are required to return their wreaths to that spot by December 11. After the wreaths are displayed, residents of Staten Island will have the chance to cast their online votes for their favorite.

Furthermore, winning isn’t the only benefit. In the municipalities of Annadale, Eltingville, and Great Kills, the top three contestants will be given a BID Bucks gift card from the South Shore BID to use at any small company of their choosing.

About the toy drive

Now for the toy drive news: it aims to collect gifts suitable for both boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 15. The district office should receive them unwrapped.

For those who would rather have goods sent straight to the office, there is an Amazon wish list this year (https://qrco.de/bfbYHD). Borelli will collaborate with Where To Turn, a nonprofit organization, to give gifts to underprivileged kids.

We have witnessed the generosity over the years, and their influence on these children is unparalleled. A small act of kindness can add a little extra joy to their day.

South Shore Tree Lighting

The Tottenville tree lighting event will be held at Conference House Park at Hylan Blvd. and Satterlee St. on Friday, December 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. The 2025 Staten Island Pageant Winners, the Staten Island Dance and Arts, and the Girl Scouts of St. Paul’s will be present. Sound Explosion DJs will be playing music, and kids’ gifts and drinks will be available.

Lisa and Chris the Hobby Guy will also be featured. In addition to having a cable TV show, the professional actors and famous YouTubers have made appearances on shows like SNL and NBC’s Graves End Season 2.
