Dear Abby: I love my new face but hate the criticism it brings

Greetings, Abby

A few years ago, I treated myself to a facelift, and I’m really happy with the outcome. I don’t like telling people this, though. Even if my age makes it obvious, I think it’s personal and my own business.

The issue is that, for whatever reason, people feel compelled to learn about my life, and once they do, they start talking about me and making fun of me. I’ve been made the fool, humiliated, and severely hurt a number of times, and I don’t understand why anyone would give a damn.

I have been accused of flaunting myself in front of men, but I respect and adore my husband. Being a people person, I find the criticism and derision to be cruel, therefore it hurts. Other than hiding in my house, I don’t know how to deal with this. Please advise me. Thank you. AWESOME IN THE NEW JERSEY

Greetings, Good-Looking:

Desiring to appear your best is not a sign of weakness. If they can afford it, many women (and men) get cosmetic surgery. These envious people have already shown who you are, so you might as well take a moment to smile, straighten up, and take responsibility for your actions. You may even volunteer to disclose the name of your surgeon because of how well your outcome turned out. It hasn’t worked to hide, so come out and be proud. That face cost you money. Make it public!
