Man, 21, accused of sexually abusing child on Staten Island charged

New York’s Staten Island. In relation to the June incident, a Staten Island man has been charged with child sexual abuse.

According to court documents, Basilio Sanchez, 21, of New Brighton’s 70th block of Van Buren Street, was arraigned in October on counts of sexually abusing a child under the age of eleven.

The victim’s mother allegedly discovered the defendant, who was detained on June 24 on the 60th block of Jersey Street in New Brighton, with her daughter on his lap and his hands inside the front of her shorts.

Sanchez is currently facing allegations of first-, second-, and third-degree sexual abuse as well as endangering a child’s welfare.

Court documents indicate that the victim was granted a temporary order of protection.

Sanchez pleaded not guilty and was granted either $10,000 cash or a $30,000 bond as bail.

When contacted by the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com for comment, Sanchez’s lawyer Yan Katznelson stated that his client insists he is innocent.

Mr. Sanchez insists that he will be found innocent if the facts are known and rejects any misconduct in his case.

According to internet records, his court date is set for January 14.
