Andrew Cuomo laying foundation for NYC mayoral run, report says

New York’s Staten Island — According to a recent CNN report, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo may be preparing for a candidacy this year.

Since 2025 is New York City’s mayoral election year, Cuomo has been discreetly getting ready to enter politics again.

According to CNN, the former governor started reaching out to local political and community leaders last month after changing his voter registration address to a Midtown apartment in September.

Cuomo has assured potential funders and other influential people that he will win if he decides to run, according to the site.

One factor preventing him from making a full commitment, according to CNN, is the possibility of running for governor in 2026 against Kathy Hochul, his successor in Albany.

Cuomo simply hasn’t made a decision yet, a representative for the former governor told the news organization. It’s entirely up to him whether or not he wants to invest the time and effort.

Days after an investigation led by Attorney General Letitia James found that Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women at work, creating a hostile work environment that was illegal under both state and federal law, Cuomo announced his departure in 2021.

Leading Democrats, such asFollowing the release of the attorney general’s report on August 3, President Joe Biden and the leaders of the New York State Senate and Assembly denounced Cuomo’s actions and demanded his resignation.

Up until the very end, Cuomo maintained his defiance, denying the most grave accusations against him and claiming that gestures intended to be affectionate had been misunderstood.

He had long refused to step down before that.

The former governor spoke before Congress in September regarding his management of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cuomo has long been under fire for how he handled the pandemic, especially for requiring nursing homes to take in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Less than a year into the crisis, Cuomo’s reputation as a model of responsible governance started to deteriorate due to the former governor’s COVID reaction and inappropriate behavior toward women.
