Bellevue Hospital Alert: Rikers Inmate Escapes During Treatment!

Authorities are actively searching for James Mossetty, a 35-year-old inmate from Rikers Island, who managed to escape custody while receiving medical treatment at Bellevue Hospital on Wednesday evening. Mossetty’s escape occurred shortly before 10 p.m., just as correction officers were preparing to transport him back to Rikers Island.

James Mossetty had been admitted to Bellevue Hospital on June 5 due to a medical issue. His initial arrest took place on January 6, 2024, in Manhattan, where he faced charges including assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and theft of services. At the time of his escape, Mossetty was described as approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, gray sweatpants, black glasses, and black shoes.

The incident has prompted a joint effort by the NYPD and U.S. Marshals to locate and apprehend Mossetty swiftly. Authorities have urged anyone with information about Mossetty’s whereabouts to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers.
