Broccoli sold at Walmart recalled for risk of serious infection

Walmart-sold broccoli is being recalled due to a high and occasionally fatal infection risk.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Braga Fresh is recalling one production lot of cleaned and consumable 12-ounce Marketside Broccoli Florets because of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Although the products’ expiration date is December 10, 2024, authorities are worried that customers might have stored their parcels in the freezer for later use.

Although this product is no longer available in stores and has beyond its best-if-used date, customers may have frozen it for later use. According to the FDA advice, consumers who have this product in their freezers should not eat it and should throw it away.

The potential for Listeria monocytogenes contamination is the reason behind the initiation of this caution. When Texas Health & Human Services randomly selected samples from a Texas store location and one of many samples produced a positive test result, the possibility of contamination was identified.

As of right now, this product has not been linked to any ailments.

The FDA states that Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can infect small children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems, leading to serious and occasionally deadly infections.

Infection with Listeria monocytogenes can result in miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, even though healthy people may only experience transient symptoms including a high temperature, intense headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea.

Walmart stores carried this particular product, which had lot code BFFG327AG on the front of the bag, a UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back, and an expiration date of December 10, 2024.

Every product that might be impacted has passed its expiration date and is no longer available for purchase in retailers. No other goods made by Marketside or Braga Fresh are subject to this warning.

Customers who own this product should not eat it right away and discard it.
