Could Daylight Saving Time end in the new Trump administration? Musk, Ramaswamy on board

Daylight Saving Time may be eliminated, according to Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy of President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

New York Magazine claims that Musk responded to a poll on whether or not Daylight Saving Time should be abolished by posting the following tweet on his platform X, which was once Twitter.

It appears that the public wants to do away with the bothersome time shifts! This link: https://t.co/5ePhgzYLsF

Musk penned, It appears that the public wants to do away with the bothersome time shifts!

Ramaswamy added, “It’s inefficient & easy to change,” to the discussion on X shortly after.

The unified Time Act of 1966 created a unified Daylight Saving Time schedule across the United States.

Only two states, Arizona and Hawaii, have chosen not to change their clocks, though other states, including New York, are considering doing so in the coming years.

Lawmakers proposed legislation to permanently implement Daylight Saving Time in the New York State Assembly and Senate during the fall 2023 legislative session.

However, no vote was held and both proposals remained stuck in committee. Therefore, neither has been made a law.

The bill’s originator, State Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, revived it in March 2023 with bipartisan support after it passed the Senate in March 2022. However, the House never took a vote on it because of other urgent issues.

Rubio has maintained that the clock change custom is outdated, as have other proponents of a permanent transition to Daylight Saving Time. Since newborns’ internal clocks don’t alter, it’s said that setting the clock to Daylight Saving Time will improve everyone’s quality of sleep, particularly for new parents.

Many others claim that reversing the clocks by one hour in the fall shortens winter days at a time when anxiety and despair are at their worst and deprives us of valuable sunlight during the darkest season.

Some claim that implementing Daylight Saving Time permanently will benefit individuals working in agriculture.
