STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—For the fifth year in a row, Mindy and John Sorrentino are repeating their amazing holiday show.
Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as Friday, December 20, Saturday, December 21, and Sunday, December 22, from 5 to 7 p.m., are the dates of the husband-wife team’s fifth annual Lacey’s Fur-Get Me Not Holiday Fundraiser.
There will be Santa and Mickey Mouse available for pictures.
In an effort to make children happy and raise awareness of the cause, the Sorrentinos urge everyone to photograph with Santa and Mickey and bring along family members and/or pets.
The display may be found in New Springville at 18 Carpenter Ave.
Contributions are not required. The campaign bears the name of Lacey, the Sorrentinos’ dog, who passed away a few years ago.
John, a retired firefighter, says there’s nothing better than watching children’s cheeks light up when families visit to view the display. At this weekend’s and next weekend’s fundraising, Santa is looking forward to seeing all the families and their pets.
The Sorrentinos ended up fostering six dogs after Lacey passed away, and each of them found loving homes.
The Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare and For Blake’s Sake Rescue are two of the Staten Island rescue foundations that will benefit from all sales.
For Blake’s Sake Rescue’s goal is to save as many animals as possible from whatever terrible situations they may encounter.
Fostering keeps animals out of shelters, but it could take weeks or months, Mindy added. In addition to raising money and awareness for needy animals, we are doing this in memory of Lacey.
Children will get candy canes and Santa and elf hats from Mindy and John during the event.
UPCOMING ATTRACTIONS IN 2024
There are animatronic versions of Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse as well as a Minion.
John goes on to say, “They all move and sing Christmas songs.” The Grinch and his dog Max, new lights, a singing Santa, updates to the ice pond, and—most importantly—Mickey Mouse and Santa Claus will be present at our benefit.
John continues by explaining that there will be five opportunities for everyone to see Santa and Mickey this year.
We are ecstatic to be able to assist in giving dogs and cats in need a better life because we have always been huge animal lovers. We can improve their world if we all contribute even a small amount. Furthermore, it’s difficult to determine who enjoys the fundraiser more—Santa, Mickey, or the children.
Every year, Mindy, John, and their daughter Raquel enlarge their Winter Wonderland, which is always decked out with lavish Christmas décor and a variety of cartoon characters and holiday attractions that include well-known Disney, Looney Tunes, and Sesame Street characters in addition to Santa and his helpers.
UNIQUE STANDOUTS
Inflatable Star Wars and Avengers figures, along with Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys, are noteworthy.
Handcrafted, unique pieces of Bugs Bunny and his team on a sled are also available.
Also brought to life is a classic display that features Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was created by John Sorrentino’s father, aunt, and uncle seventy years ago.
The Grinch, the Flintstones, Popeye, Winnie the Pooh and friends, Magilla Gorilla, Underdog, Mickey and friends on a sled, an amazing penguin ice pond with a slide, and other Christmas-themed items, such as Santa’s mailbox, are also present.
Additionally, children may see Santa and his helpers make Christmas items by hand in a live video from the North Pole.
